ITB Engineering student presented with an Intel Women in Technology Award

ITB engineering student Kristen Fallon was presented with an Intel Women in Technology Award at a special ceremony held last week in Dublin’s Morrison Hotel. The Intel Women in Technology awards were presented to a number of high achieving students who have recently graduated with Level 6 or 7 awards at Institutes of Technology across Ireland. As well as being presented with their award on the night, recipients also received a monetary prize. Recipients were selected based on academic excellence.

Kristen has just completed a Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechatronic Engineering at ITB, achieving an honours award. She is currently continuing her studies on the Level 8 Honours Degree in Mechatronic Engineering at ITB. Kristen is very active within ITB in the promotion of engineering as a career with a particular focus on encouraging women in engineering. She has given demonstrations and talks to Transition Year girls from local schools who have attended at ITB’s Young Women in Technology Programme. Kristen attended at the awards ceremony with her parents and brother and sister. Also in attendance from ITB were Richard Gallery, Head of Department of Engineering, and Michelle Looby, Senior Lecturer in Engineering. All thoroughly enjoyed the event!

Speaking about the Intel Women in Technology programs at the presentation event, Sarah Sexton, Intel Public Affairs, said

“At Intel we have a strong commitment to diversity and recognise that the world in which our business operates today is one of increased dynamism where women are key consumers and key contributors of valuable perspectives and ideas. We are delighted to once again have the opportunity to encourage more young women to pursue careers in science and technology, as well as giving them first hand experience of the career opportunities at Intel”.
